It's Friday! Time for some memes!

Book Blogger Hop
I'm in for a treat with this long weekend! Three-day weekends should be the norm, don't you think?

As is three-meme Fridays.

Without much ado, Book Blogger Hop's question for today is an interesting one:

“Highlight one book you have received this week (for review, from the library, purchased at the store, etc.) that you can’t wait to dig into!”

A few weeks ago I received an email asking if I'd consider reviewing a memoir about 9/11. I still remember the horror I felt when I realized that what I was seeing on TV was real, and not some trailer of a war movie.

Can you believe that a decade has passed since that fateful day? Here is a story about how Artie Van Why's life changed That Day In September.  I'll be reading it over the weekend.

Here's the summary:

We all have our stories to tell of where we were the morning of September 11, 2001. This is one of them. In "That Day In September" Artie Van Why gives an eyewitness account of that fateful morning. From the moment he heard "a loud boom" in his office across from the World Trade Center, to stepping out onto the street, Artie vividly transports the reader back to the day that changed our lives and our country forever. "That Day In September" takes you beyond the events of that morning. By sharing his thoughts, fears and hopes, Artie expresses what it was like to be in New York City in the weeks and months following. The reader comes away from "That Day In September" with not only a more intimate understanding of the events of that day but also with a personal glimpse of how one person's life was dramatically changed forever.

Two more fun memes after the jump!

The Friday 56 always gets me scrambling to find the closest book!

Here are very simple rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence that grabs you.
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Freda's Voice Linky.

Before I go to bed, lately I've been flipping through an extremely old copy of Kahlil Gibran's Tears and Laughter. Maybe you're familiar with his more familiar The Prophet, a book of poetry - basically a guide to life - and which I adore! Tears and Laughter is a little different as it is a mix of both poetry and prose.

Page 56 is a chapter called "The Victors" and it holds this little nugget about love (a passage, as I can't  pick just one sentence!):

I am innocent and you are just. Why do you oppress me?

You are my very being. Why do you injure me?

You are my strength. Why do you weaken me?

You are my guide. Why do you desert me in this wilderness?

I am at the feet of your mercy, and will follow no path but your own. It is your will and my obedience that make my soul happy, shaded in the open field by your wings.

Follow Friday! Now there are two hosts, so I decided to pop over to our new host Alison Can Read.

Q. Let's step away from books for a second and get personal. What T-Shirt slogan best describes you?

I hate being too personal. Everyone thinks I look younger than I really am. Seriously. That's fine. I guess I should be flattered! Though I sometimes think I must come across as juvenile, and not to be taken seriously. So here's the t-shirt slogan for me, courtesy of Threadless, where the awesome-est shirts are born!

Have a wonderful weekend! (I've got an extra day! Yay!)

  4. I am WAY older than the Internet...LOL

I liked your excerpts, your T-shirt, and I'm really wanting to read that book about 9/11.

    Thanks for visiting my blog.

  5. Hopping through. I don't think I'd brag that I'm older than the Internet...although I guess it's fairly obvious. Let's see...I got my first e-mail address when I was 13.

  6. Love the T-shirt (threadless rules!).
And I adore Gibran too - what a lovely selection you found on page 56. One of my favorites:
'And he alone is great who turns the voice of the wind into a song made sweeter by his own loving.'
It was my high school yearbook quote, and I still remember it, although I too am older than the internet!

  12. I’m seeing a lot of single answer responses with Twilight being by far the most popular choice. I really must analyze all the elements of that series that send girls ga-ga. Such studies are a part of the never-ending "code breaking” we males need to continuously execute to understand and relate with the fairer sex.

I’ve cracked about 80% of the code. I will continue cracking the code until I reach 100% success. Then I’ll write a book for men and become a billionaire overnight.

    BUT I DIGRESS....

I’ve got four different series I can read over and over again. Three of them were written by deceased authors and three of them are fantasy adventures.

Follow me back to my blog at http://www.howardsherman.net and find out how far off the beaten track I’ve gone with my favorite book series!

    Thank God it’s Follow Friday!
