Thank goodness. Friday!

Thank goodness Friday is here! I have three book-related memes today! It's a great way to join in on the fun in the book blogging community, as well as meet some great folks!

Check out my meme answers (to some very intriguing questions) after the jump!

Book Blogger Hop

Meme 1! Over at the Book Blogger Hop, this week's question is:

“What is the one ARC you would love to get your hands on right now?”

Does a beta account at Pottermore count? I'm itching to find out how J.K. Rowling spins more stories about Harry Potter!

Meme 2! Friday 56's simple rules:
*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence that grabs you. (I cheat sometimes and put a little more than a sentence!)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post below in Freda's Voice Linky.

My book for this week's Friday 56 is John Le Carre's The Constant Gardener.

I did a review of this a little while back. Check it out here. This medical conspiracy's page 56 yields this eye-brow-raising passage:

Woodrow remembered Tessa telling him she had converted the dressing room into a workroom: It's not only men who have dens, Sandy. Us girls have them too, she had told him provocatively, as if she were instructing him in body parts.

Meme 3! Over at Follow Friday, the question is:

Q. Talk about the book that most changed or influenced your life (was it a book that turned you from an average to avid reader, did it help you deal with a particularly difficult situation, does it bring you comfort every time you read it?).

This may seem trite, or even a cliche. A self-help book that actually works? I have to say that this book is a treasure trove. Each time I open it, I get something new, something exciting!
Stephen R. Covey's book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, has been a top-seller for the simple reason that it ignores trends and pop psychology for proven principles of fairness, integrity, honesty, and human dignity. {Via.}
While it did become a trend in its own right, the principles Covey discusses are timeless. And depending on what I am  going through, I find that this book always has some small nugget of truth to reveal to me. This book has helped me reexamine my life, what matters, my priorities, and what I can influence or change. It has helped keep me grounded and realistic. And that's saying a lot about a self-help book!

I hope you all have a great weekend! Keep cool!

  5. I like that you read several different genres (also, your button is beyond cute!) I always heard that the 7 Habits book was great in college but never got around to reading it. Mostly people in the business dept. did. Guess I'll check it out!
Stopping by and following as part of the blog hop.
