Feature and Follow Friday || Book Blogger Hop

Is it Friday already? I'm quite ready to have a nice relaxing weekend hanging out in my backyard with a tall glass of lemonade and a good book. How about you?

Q: Today’s is the US’s Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

My answer: Some books that I love that immediately come to mind are Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.

Let me rattle on about Les Miserables for a bit. Funnily, although I've never reviewed it on this blog, I've posted about it on your nails, quoted from it the other week, mentioned it as one of my top favourite books here, and of course, waited with bated breath for the movie to come out. And don't laugh ... I have the10th anniversary tapes (yes, cassette TAPES) which I loved to sing along to ... or used to, when I still had a cassette player! Now I just go on YouTube!

And a few more titles. More recently read books that deal with war are The Clock of Life by Nancy Klann-Moren and Last Train to Omaha by Ann Whitely-Gillen.

Q: Do you like or dislike Rafflecopter and why?

My answer: All my book giveaways are done through Rafflecopter. I think it's a nifty tool and it does the job really well ... it makes sure an email address is there, it doublechecks that people have tweeted or posted, it picks my winner/s for me, and I can announce the winners through my different social media accounts too! All the info is there in one place and that is really convenient for me, or anyone running a giveaway.

On the flip side, if I'm off joining giveaways, I appreciate Rafflecopter because it's easy to use. I do have one quibble for those who use it to give a looooooong list of things that I need to do. I realize that  I don't need to do everything ... but when I need to scroll a page to get through the Rafflecopter form, I start losing interest. And you know some contests where you enter by following Twitter accounts ... ever encounter those which link up to another page and you're faced with 20 (or more accounts) to follow? I just go screaming in the opposite direction ...

Again, I have some a GIVEAWAY happening right now ... and more upcoming!

Follow me using any of the icons up in the top right of the blog! Don't forget to leave a comment and a link so I can go visit you and check out your answers! Happy Friday!

  1. I like using Rafflecopter on my giveaways, but care for the ones that have several other pages with ten twitter/ or facebook pages to follow.

  2. Great choices! I totally agree that it is beyond annoying to enter a rafflecopter and have about 50 things to do. I've totally given up on those as well. It drives me crazy. Happy 4th, Friday and have a great weekend!

  3. I have a rafflecopter up right now. I find it easy to use to pick a winner instead of me having to have to figure out another way to do it.

  4. You accurately described the benefits of Rafflecopter. It is a wonderful tool. Yes, one does not have to do all of the steps on those long entries, but I wonder if readers feel like they have a chance if they have one or two entries up against thirty possible entries. Not a fan of the long entries myself.

  5. Would you believe I've owned "Les Miserables" for YEARS, and have never read it? I know, I know...shame on me, right? Well, now that you've raved about it so much, I really MUST plan to read this book before the end of this year! Lol.

About the Rafflecopter: God bless whoever invented this widget! It's SUPER convenient!! So I wholeheartedly agree with you when you sing its praises! I also agree that it can be annoying when you encounter SO many options to enter a giveaway. On the other hand, though, you have that many more chances to win!!

Have a GREAT weekend, and Happy Reading (and giveaway hosting)!!! :)

  7. Most of my favorite reads rarely get reviewed on my site. Mostly because it's been such a long time, way before the blog was born, that I feel like I can't write a review on it anymore, even if I re-read it. New Follower via Bloglovin'.

  8. I do not like it at all. Too many hoops to jump through.

  12. Les Mis is one of my faves of all time, too! And .. yes, I was at the movie opening week! :)

I do not use Rafflecopter any longer for various reasons. I'm with you on how some blogs choose to implement it as well. Like you, I don't even go for those HUGE follow lists!
