#BookmarkMonday: The Sci-Fi Edition (1) #RRSciFiMonth

Welcome to Week 40 of #BookmarkMonday, the 2013 Edition. This is the first post of four in celebration of Sci-Fi Week which is hosted by Rinn Reads.

I wondered what the most-loved sci-fi books are and I found this lovely list of popular sc-fi classics over at Goodreads. Here's a selection of four classics matched up with some bookmarks. Check them out after the jump!

I, Robot / Fahrenheit 451 The Dune Chronicles / The War of the Worlds

Isaac Asimov seems to be quite a favourite in the list. Here's a cute homage by ChristyMoss to his I, Robot or The Robots of Dawn. {I've not read any of Asimov's work so I'm curious to see related posts and maybe some recommendations on where to start.}

I know this is is an oldie but it's definitely a goodie! I love the idea of a burning book -- yes it's a rather literal bookmark which would go perfectly with Ray Bradbury's, you guessed it, Fahrenheit 451! {This is another that has been on my TBR for years (read: pathetic) and I hope to get cracking on this one in 2014.}

I came across these lovely illustrated fan art by Embly on DeviantArt which are a perfect size for bookmarks. They depict characters and quotes from The Dune Chronicles by Frank Herbert. {I don't personally know anyone who has read all the Dune books. Anyone? Should I try this one?}

Flesh and Graphite captures the H.G. Wells classic The War of the Worlds in this lovely watercoloury pencil and ink bookmark. {Now, this one I have heard lots about. I know about the radio show that freaked out everyone because they thought an alien invasion was actually was happening. But then I shied away from the recent movie with Tom Cruise in it (because Tom Cruise is in it). Shall I include in TBR?}

That's it for this week ... stay tuned for next week's edition!

  1. I love the burning bookmark. Hopefully you'll get Fahrenheit 451 read soon. It's my favourite Bradbury book and is probably one of my top ten reads of all time.

  2. Those robots are adorable! And that burning bookmark is clever, definitely a great match for Fahrenheit 451 =)

    And you should definitely read War of the Worlds, it's one of my favourites and a brilliant example of early sci-fi. And nothing like the Tom Cruise movie ;)

    1. I thought a dose of cute was in order, Rinn. The burning bookmark is one of my all-time faves ... it's often been shown during Banned Books Week.

      Whew --- Tom Cruise needs to stay Jerry McGuire. I'll get WOtW on TBR!

    1. Hi Juju! If you look through the link at all the illustrations, there are more great ones. I just couldn't relate as I've never read any of the Dune books.

  4. Lovin' these bookmarks!

    I haven't read any book from the Dune Chronicles but my husband read one (the 3rd one - don't ask why he didn't start with the first book haha) and he said that it's really great. And I believe him. I've read a lot of good commentaries about those books.

    Thanks for sharing these awesome photos! :)
