Friday 56 & Book Beginnings: Confessions of a Cake Addict

Oh my dear, dear Egg,
I've done it. I've finally done it.

For Friday 56:
"I never met a girl like her before." He takes a swig of whisky. "I'm gonna marry her, you see if I don't. She's the salt of the earth." When he starts repeating the litany again I start to move towards my bedroom.

I have a bit of a soft spot for sweets, so this read is something I look forward to as I've been reading pretty heavy stuff lately. I checked out the Emma Kaufmann's blog Mommy Has a Headache and really liked her sense of humour, so agreeing to review this one is a no-brainer! Yay, some chick lit at long last!

Quick synopsis: Londoner Kate Pickles has hit rock bottom. She's funny, kind, and talented but totally unaware about all the great things she has going for her. Day in and day out, she sits back and whines to her sister Laurie in Sydney, Australia, as her boss walks all over her and her best friend Eva bags the hot guys while Kate ends up dating whack jobs and comfort eating cake. Pouring out her heart to Laurie in a series of letters and emails, Kate longs for her sister to confirm she really is the loser in love she fears she is. Abruptly, Kate's life is turned upside down when, on a trip to Vienna with her glamorous pal, Eva, Kate falls for a sexy Austrian and gets sucked into making a Bollywood film.

What are you reading? Leave me your link and I'll pop over for a visit!

  2. Thanks so much for the review hun! I'm reading Role Models by John Waters - an amazing insight into the twisted dark humourous world of the film director!

    1. Thanks for coming by Emma. I'll be starting this one soon and let you know how it goes. I've never heard of John Waters - sounds Tim Burton-esque ...

  6. Hi Aloi,

This is a new to me author, which isn't really a surprise, as I don't tend to read much in the way of chick-lit.

These stories are however, always great as stand-by, just in case I need a really quick, light read that I don't really need to think about too much.

This book has definitely made my stand by list, as it ticks all the right boxes .... cake, cake and more cake!!

I also really need to know what she has done to Egg?

    Thanks for a fun post

    Yvonne
