2012 Filipino Friday 3: Reading Habits and Book Formats

  • Friday, August 03, 2012

Hello there, it's the third week of Filipino Friday for 2012! {No idea what this is? I'm going into my weekend so I'm doing away with the intros. Please just check out my previous post.}

Week 3. Reading Habits and Book Formats. Where and how do you read? Can you read anywhere and everywhere, or do you need a certain place/mood/state of mind to get reading? Do you read more in the morning or at night or any minute that you can? Where and how do you usually read? Are you exclusively for print, or do you go for ebooks more than print? Have you ever tried audiobooks?

Where and how do you read? During weekdays, I usually read before going to bed as it settles my mind. Weekends are a bit more flexible -- I can read a book throughout the day ... or night. I love the feeling of getting through a book uninterrupted.

How I read? I prefer to read in chunks i.e., whole chapters. I hate going through a just a few pages as it breaks the flow of the story, and the momentum of reading.

Can you read anywhere and everywhere, or do you need a certain place/mood/state of mind to get reading? I can read absolutely anywhere and everywhere, as long as I have a book on me. {I have learned to stop reading in the car though because car conversations are better :) } But heck, II don't really need a certain mood or state of mind -- in fact, reading can calm me down.

Do you read more in the morning or at night or any minute that you can? I'm a spontaneous reader but my routine lets me read more at night. But weekends - anything goes!

Are you exclusively for print, or do you go for ebooks more than print? While I have a fondness for the old-fashioned physical book, I am open to ebooks too (how nifty is highlighting and digital bookmarking?). There is still something lovely about holding, smelling, and turning the pages of a book. I also love graphic art and textures and embossed covers and hard covers and gilt pages and ragged pages ... should I go on?

Have you ever tried audiobooks? No, I haven't. I probably should. I haven't formed an opinion about them yet.

If you have a  Filipino Friday post, I'd love to read it! Mabuhay ang mambabasang Pinoy! (Power to the Filipino reader!)

I have this kind of OC attitude over reading, I always, ALWAYS have to finish a chapter, if I have to stop reading, my bookmark must rest on the next chapter's very first page or else I go restless. I don't know why. :P

Thanks for stopping by my post. ^_^

    1. i always end up re-reading the chapter is for some reason i can't finish it! so reading a book takes twice as long :)

    2. Finishing a chapter - now I know I'm not the only one with that hang-up. It makes it easier for me to remember which part of the book I'm at. It's quite difficult to put down a book sometimes, especially if a particular chapter concludes with something like 'I turned around the corner and was surprised with what I saw.' Haha.

  2. I'd sure love to read uninterrupted! I have 3 lil boogers so that doesn't happen ..unless I read in the middle of the night. --Try audiobooks ..can be relaxing having someone read to you and it's art too cuz the narrators can make the experience very pleasant with their voice acting. "Playaway" digital is the way to go for portability! --Haha, I still haven't tried highlighting on ereaders ..just not that techy. ;)

  3. One of the things that I enjoyed while using my friend's e-reader is the way you could make the font size larger! Especially since most paperback copies of books have teeny tiny font sizes. :) Digital bookmarking is also awesome. But like you said printed copies will always be near and dear to our hearts. :D

  4. I agree with the highlighting feature of e-readers! Isn't it just awesome? But yeah, print books are still so much better especially if it's a series you want to complete. :)

    1. they both have their place in the world and i probably will spring for an e-reader at some point. but what is it about a whole series on your shelf ? :)

  5. If I had an e-reader, maybe I'll do that highlight thing. But with paper books, that would be unacceptable!

  6. Digital highlighting is totally nifty! I started checking out Kobo lately, and the viewable comments within the ebook are hilarious. I should try that too...
