Book Blogger Hop & Banned Books

Blogging Question: Banned Books Week ends on the 6th. How do you feel about books being challenged to be banned from libraries or schools? Have you read any banned books?

Banning books curtails on the basic right for freedom of choice. I am glad that we have the freedom to read what we choose and while rating books so that parents and teacher, in particular, know what to expect for their kids, outright banning is a disturbing thought ...

Last year, I remember I did a quick listing of some banned books that I had read. I was a little surprised that I had read quite a few. You can check it out here.

More recently I've been seeing Go Ask Alice in bookstores; I picked this up off the curb.

While I don't consciously seek out banned books, I continue to love the idea of reading to open myself up to new ideas ... and if banned books are in the list of books that are challenging, enlightening, and empowering, I am all for them!

  1. The book that I REALLY don't understand why it got banned is Charlotte's Web!! Really? I'm not sure how many banned books I've read, but will check it out!

  2. Yes, that people bann books is a disturbing thought. I don't like the idea of people telling me what I can and can't read.

  3. I think it's funny how many people look at banned books lists as a way to find challenging and thought-provoking books. But it makes sense!

  4. Found you on the blog hop!

I picked up Go Ask Alice last week, too. I read the first several pages and already I'm cringing. This girl had issues before the drugs ever took part of her life!
