Friday meme time! Sunshine and mythical creatures!

It's Thursday! I'm posting a little early, and will probably update a bit tomorrow.

Ahhhh ... Friday has swung around once more, and you all know what that means ... it's time to join in the fun with some Friday memes and do some book blog hopping! TGIF!

Updated Saturday morning!

Two Three memes after the jump!

Meme 1: The Friday 56 is so simple, why don't you join in?

*Grab a book, any book.
*Turn to page 56.
*Find any sentence that grabs you. (I cheat sometimes and put a little more than a sentence!)
*Post it.
*Add your (url) post in Freda's Voice Linky.

I just got an advance reader's copy of Deborah Reed's Carry Yourself Back to Me in the mail!

Flipping to page 56:

"It was just a practical decision. The marriage and coming here. I could open my cafe in all this sunshine. It's not stupid. It's so dark and rainy in Denmark. I know. It's stupid that I married him to live in the sunshine."

If that didn't pique your interest, here's a quick summary from the back of the book:

With a broken heart, a stalled career, and a troubled family, singer-songwriter Annie Walsh seeks refuge at her secluded at her secluded home, surrounded by a lush Florida tangelo grove and the company of her dog Detour. But a crime connected to her brother Calder threatens to tear her family apart, and Annie is forced to shore up her loyalties and question some profound disappoints of her past.

I'll be reading and reviewing this book soon!

Meme 2: Follow Friday

Over at Follow Friday, this week's question is a good one, especially for paranormal lovers out there:

Q. In some books like the Sookie Stackhouse series the paranormal creature in question "comes out of the closet" and makes itself known to the world. Which mythical creature do you wish this would happen with in real life?

My answer: Every single thing mentioned in Harry Potter!  Skrewts, threstrals, hippogriffs, plimpies, the acromantula, kelpiesboggarts, grindylowspuffskeinshinkypunks,... all these creatures (which draws heavily from mythology, and what fun names!) and the whole Harry Potter world is so wondrous that everything seems real! What about you, which of these were your favourites?

If you haven't already read this, check out Harry Potter's schoolbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Or, check out this great list compiled in The Bestiary in the Harry Potter Lexicon!

Wishing you all a magical blog hopping!

Book Blogger Hop
Meme 3: Book Blogger Hop

I'm hopping on this one late, but here goes:

Q: “Non-book-related this week!! Do you have pets?”

A: No, not at the moment. The daughter would love a pet, any pet. But we're still settling down. We have had a rabbit (which ran away), a teeny turtle (who died from too much toddler kissing), then a lull. In fact, for show-and-tell (she was maybe 7 at the time), daughter brought along her stuffed toy Rufus. That really got everyone laughing!

Ok, all, have a good time a'hopping!
