What were some of your favorite picture books as a kid? If you have kids, what are your favorites to read to them?
 

My answer: 

Easy. Eric Carle's books. My favourite is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Read this to the daughter when she was young and ended up collecting more of Eric Carle's books!

What is your favorite genre? List two of your favorite books in that genre.

My answer: 

If you've been here before, you've probably noticed the lack of focus of this blog; I'm not into YA very much, and there is definitely little paranormal activity. Otherwise, I'm such an eclectic reader that I find it torturous to have to think of a favourite genre.

I have enjoyed quite a few books in these genres, though I have to point out that I didn't choose them because of the genre per se. And I'm limiting favourites to three (not two), and only those read this year. Click on the covers for the reviews!

How long have you been blogging?

My answer: Can you believe I've been blogging since 2005? I used to blog about food but moved into book blogging (sporadically) in 2007. And here we are today, still blogging about books and reading!

Q: Today’s is the US’s Independence Day. Share your favorite book with a war in it, or an overthrow of the government.

My answer: Some books that I love that immediately come to mind are Les Miserables by Victor Hugo and The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje.

Let me rattle on about Les Miserables for a bit. Funnily, although I've never reviewed it on this blog, I've posted about it on your nails, quoted from it the other week, mentioned it as one of my top favourite books here, and of course, waited with bated breath for the movie to come out. And don't laugh ... I have the10th anniversary tapes (yes, cassette TAPES) which I loved to sing along to ... or used to, when I still had a cassette player! Now I just go on YouTube!

Last week was fun, so I'm back :) I loved reading all your comments and I don't think I made it though the entire list. Talk about overwhelmed!

Q: What is your preferred reading format? Hardcover, eBooks, paperback etc?

My answer: Definitely a physical book. I haven't done the e-book thing yet. I prefer trade paperbacks as I love the feel of good quality paper. Hardbacks are nice on the shelf but I find those silly hard corners annoy me.

Book Blogger Hop

I just realized something really funny. The question we're answering for this week is MY question which I submitted ages ago (when I was still very much into the Friday hop thing). What goes around comes around! :)

Q: So would you read a book just because of the hype?

My answer: OF COURSE! Where there is smoke there is fire. At the least is you get in on what the hype is all about -- which makes you less duh-sounding during lunchtime conversations (besides you don't have to read the whole thing, you can pretend to).

And, at the most, you get a really, really good read. I remember this happened with Harry Potter. The hype was just beginning in the book blogging community with the very first book (no movie to speak of at the time and the book blogging community was pretty small at the time). I picked a copy up in the bookstore and devoured it. I never posted about it. Well, today ... as they say ... the rest is history. I've read all the books and watched all the movies and even have a daughter who practically grew up on Harry Potter.

Q: When you are writing your reviews, do you write them as you are reading or wait until you are completely done with the book?

My answer: I tried writing notes as I read to make it easy when I write the review ... but it interfered with my enjoying the book. So now I just put stickies or ... gasp ... dogear ... to make sure I know where to flip back to the good parts.

It's Friday! Time for some memes!

Without much ado, Book Blogger Hop's question for today is an interesting one:

A few weeks ago I received an email asking if I'd consider reviewing a memoir about 9/11. I still remember the horror I felt when I realized that what I was seeing on TV was real, and not some trailer of a war movie.

Can you believe that a decade has passed since that fateful day? Here is a story about how Artie Van Why's life changed That Day In September.  I'll be reading it over the weekend.

Here's the summary:

We all have our stories to tell of where we were the morning of September 11, 2001. This is one of them. In "That Day In September" Artie Van Why gives an eyewitness account of that fateful morning. From the moment he heard "a loud boom" in his office across from the World Trade Center, to stepping out onto the street, Artie vividly transports the reader back to the day that changed our lives and our country forever. What! It's Friday already?

I am amazed at how fast the week went by. I am pooped.

So I won't dilly-dally with my answer for Book Blogger Hop. I need a cold drink. Gah, it's humid!

How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?


I get my books anywhere, everywhere, however, where ever. Beg, buy (garage sales, thrift stores, bookstores, where ever books are sold), borrow (from the library, friends, and anywhere else), trade or Bookmooch, and even rescue from the sidewalk. A book is a book is a book!
