Look ... Literary book gifts + 20% off!

I love a good literary-themed anything so this lovely little store caught my eye. Everything looks so classy and classic! Here’s a quick little insight into the store through a chat with Melissa, the owner of Literary Book Gifts. And a little treat for all my readers. Thanks, Melissa!

***

I started the online store Literary Book Gifts to spread my personal love of reading and all things literature through iconic designs of some of our most beloved novels. Whether you are a Jane Austen fan or resonate with Henry David Thoreau’s ideas, there is something for every book lover in the collection!

I believe that great classics are meant to be read, talked about, and discussed. Each tee and tote is a perfect conversation starter. And even if it does not start up a conversation, maybe someone will see you wearing your A Tale of Two Cities shirt and pick up a copy of the Charles Dickens classic later at the local library. Graphics and artwork have a very powerful way of spreading information. This is one of the many things I love about having the opportunity to create visual representations of some of my favorite novels. I am selective about the authors and titles that make their way into the collection. Popular titles are great of course, but the lesser known ones are very important as well. I loved reading the existential tale of Gregor Samsa, and his transformation into an insect in The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. So I am pleased that it can have a place in the collection alongside more well known works such as Jane Eyre and Ulysses.

With every design you have a choice of a shirt or tote bag. The t-shirts come in women’s and men’s sizing. Each shirt is made of high quality 100% cotton composition, with the exception of some lovely heather color options that have a mixed fiber content. What really makes the shirts at Literary Book Gifts stand apart from the competition is that they come in a wide variety of colors. Each shirt comes in at least a few colors, and some of them up have up to twenty options. I believe the design itself is equally as important as the shirt color for the individual who wears it. Take the case of the Edgar Allan Poe shirt. In the women’s version choosing a pink or purple version gives off an entirely different stylish vibe than the indigo or grey options. Offering the same design to different and unique people is a great way for personalization and ultimately for the shirt to become a staple item in one’s wardrobe.

#LOTR love! Two (ear)rings to rule them all! @aliciacraft9799 (+15% off!)

  • Tuesday, August 16, 2016

Lord of the Rings fans, I know you're going slightly gaga right about now ... What's better than one ring? Well, two (ear)rings of course!

... I felt the same when I saw that the classic cover of Lord of the Rings among Alicia Crafts' offerings! The detail work of this classic cover is pretty amazing -- see the faux leather cover in dark blue, the gilt-edged pages, the tiny print of the spine and the map on back, and yes, even the golden ribbon bookmark.

Here's an even closer look! Each book earring is handmade, open up with individual pages. These super mini charms are a teensy 1" x 3/4″.

Tiny and light on the ears, the red flyleaf also gives it a little pop of colour ...

I am pretty sure that anyone wearing these LOTR earrings will get heaps of compliments, queries on their reading life, and plenty of LOTR questions. A great conversation piece and a wonderful gift for LOTR diehards!

These earrings are meticulously handcrafted by Alicia of Alicia Craft, who is also a book blogger (go visit her blog Awesome Book Assessment). Thank you, Alicia, for making such beautifully crafted bookish jewelry. I'll always treasure my two LOTR (ear)rings!

Hemingway on shirts! @ReadNobels

Something about the minimalism of these shirts featuring Ernest Hemingway, 1954 Nobel Prize laureate, appealed to me. Granted, I've only read Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, which I intend to change as chug along with the Read the Nobels 2016 Reading Challenge.

P.S. All t-shirts are $7 off + FREE SHIPPING at Society6. The ones below are from the shop StefanoReves.*

Obsessed with 100 Years of Solitude? 10 things that'll make your heart go pitter patter...

You all know I have this (not-so-secret) love affair with Gabriel Garcia Marquez ... err, I mean, his amazing books. On one of my recent Etsy-surfing expeditions, I stumbled across a few things that were 100 Years of Solitude*- themed that made me go ooh, ahh! I couldn't help myself! I liked so many, I thought you guys might get a kick out of this post:

Item 1: The book (or a version of this book). Well, this one is obvious. You need the actual book. I have this same vintage 1970s edition of 100 Years of Solitude (want your own? Get this one from Elevated Weirdo*).

Item 2: The bookmark. Keeping track of the Buendia geneaology can be tricky. So a bookmark is in order, and more than one is ideal. Here's a beautiful hand painted one by Sweet Sequels.* (My beef, the book is NOT 100 Years ... hahaha!)

Item 3: The tshirt. Shall we go with some wearable art? Check out this beautifully illustrated tshirt with a befitting memento mori vibe by Miles to Go Clothing.*

Item 4. The clutch. This cover is from collectible edition by Barnes and Noble caught my eye. Novel Creations* tranformed it into a lovely book clutch. (I wonder what they did with its innards?)

Item 5: The clutch, amped up. Yes, I know. But one can never have too many bags, right? Here's a handmade felt clutch by Mrs. Chaplain Shop* which is entirely made from scratch and is her take on the cover by Tom Rainford. The price is UP THERE but we can all dream!

Item 6: The keychain. Need something less "in your face?" (and more affordable?) Here's your keychain with 100 Years of Solitude ... in Spanish! by BytheBookBoutique*

Item 7. A magnet by Magnet Factory*. More designs please. My fridge needs some love.

Item 8. The book charm. This particular cover is extremely popular and probably among the most recognizable. Get it in a mini book charm by JanDaJewelry.* Use as a necklace or put on your keychain .... or maybe a single earring?

Item 9. The Penguin cover. Another iconic look with the 100 Years twist. This art print of Penguin Books cover is printed on an old encyclopedia page by Cartaban Prints*

Item 10. Art. Love 100 Years? Go all out with this print depicting the Ascension of Remedios the Beauty by  John Carlisle Moore.*

Are you a fan of Gabriel Garcia Marquez or any of his books? Which of these items would you absolutely love to have?

Cheers to mom with this Tequila mockingbird* tshirt ... yes, pun intended.

I know mama will have no objections cuddling up with a fox, a book, and a reminder to Read More Books*

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Of Love and Other Demons* wraps up this mama's iPhone.

A twisted kind of love, yes, but Coraline's Other Mother* is nothing like your mom, I know! This tote bag would make a perfect book bag.

Really, you can't go wrong with anything Alice in Wonderland themed, just like this vintage cover as a canvas print.

Get your #HarryPotter fix! All 7 books in a charm bracelet! @aliciacraft9799 (+15% off!)

Any which way I look at this charm bracelet, I am well ... charmed.

This lovely bracelet is meticulously handcrafted by Alicia of Alicia Craft, who, surprise surprise also has a book blog (check her out at Awesome Book Assessment).

Now, shall we just ogle this little beauty? For one, all seven Harry Potter books are on this bracelet! I initially thought it would be too many, but you can see that they dangle just nicely, with some space for a few little whimsical charms interspersed!

I am impressed that each book is handmade ... and you're probably wondering ... yes, the books open up and there are individual pages in these books. These charms are called super minis because they're only about 1 x 3/4″ wide! (Yeah, bring on your magnifiying lens, if these actually had any writing in them! They're blank, now if only I could write this small ;) )

I wanted to thank Alicia for this lovely little treat, boxed up so nicely, in all its mini glory. This little charm bracelet, not surprisingly, now belongs to my daughter who is an avid Potterhead. She says I can borrow it, if I ask nicely ... :)
