Friday 56 & #BookBeginnings (+GIVEAWAY!): Deadly Errors

Maynard Medical Center Reduces Medical Errors
Seattle – In a statement issued today, Maynard Medical Center CEO Arthur Benson reported a twenty fold decrease in medical errors since becoming a beta test site for the highly-touted Med-InDx electronic medical record (EMR). This makes it by far the safest West Coast hospital according to JCAHO, the accrediting organization for hospitals. "This is is a remarkable improvement in patient safety,” said Sergio Vericelli, chairman of JCAHO committee charged with selecting a benchmark EMR within the next year."

For Friday 56:
The caller wanted to tell the pompous egotistical sonofabitch to shut the fuck up and listen for once. “There’s been a complication. A patient received a radiation overdose.”
“So? That’s life, shit happens.”

Synopsis of Deadly Errors by Andrew Wyler: A comatose man is given a fatal dose of insulin in the emergency room, even though he isn't diabetic. An ulcer patient dies of shock after receiving a transfusion of the wrong blood type. A recovering heart patient receives a double dose of medication and suffers a fatal heart attack.

Brain surgeon Dr. Tyler Matthews suspects that something is seriously wrong with the hospital's new Med-InDx computerized medical record system. But he doesn't suspect that there's something murderously wrong with it. As Matthews begins to peel back the layers of deception that cover the deadly errors, he crosses powerful corporate interests who aren't about to let their multi-billion dollar medical record profits evaporate. Now a target, Matthews finds himself trapped in a maze of deadly conspiracy, with his career, his marriage, and his very life on the line.

Once again, Wyler blends his unparalleled expertise as a world class surgeon with his uncanny knack for suspense to create a true "best-of-breed" medical thriller. Deadly Errors is a lightning-quick action procedural that is destined to win new fans to the medical thriller genre.

  3. Ooh this one sounds really interesting! When I read the beginning I thought that maybe it was a little bit too technical for my liking, but then the F56 is completely different! The synopsis is what really sold it though, because I love the idea of this murderous medical system! If I lived in the US I would totally join the giveaway! Thanks for sharing :) I hope you have a great weekend!

    1. The beginning is from a press release which explains why it's so technical. Lots of swearing in the 56 ;) Sorry this is US/Can only Juli ... and thanks for spreading the word!

  11. Well this sounds like a terrifying book! It seems like there could be some very interesting, very moving stories in this book, but I imagine I'd mostly feel concerned and frustrated if I read it.

  12. I absolutely love medical thrillers. In this age when it's cheaper to kill patients than to treat them, there's always that fear of the "perfect" insurance program, if you get my creepy drift.
